Design and Development Atelier (DADA) is a multi-disciplinary firm based in Gurgaon. The firm is headed by four founding partners- Sumit Arora, Aditi Arora, Parul Mittal and Mukul Arora. DADA executes a diverse array of projects including residential architecture and landscape, campus planning and urban design projects. The firm believes in bridging the gap between ‘our professions innate leaning towards the artistic and market realities’ to enable bringing about a meaningful impact in the city building process. They claim that from the experience of their past projects it has become evident that in the highly privatized and hermetic built environment, the key to meaningful work lies in exploring the intersection of innovative architecture, open space planning, and strategic programming.
As a design philosophy, all their projects are viewed through multiple ‘lenses’ of global and local contexts, desire lines on the site, client aspirations among others which are then weaved with a central idea that is explored – be it sustainability or a specific experiential quality. In their work the team hope that the inherent dichotomy of a multi-disciplinary studio; often oscillating between figure (architecture objects) and voids (urban spaces) and the opposing values the two sometimes represent; informs and enriches the core values of the studio.
DADA’s projects include works varied in scale and typology, including the Master planning for the new campus of the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, high density group housing in Gurgaon for the Godrej Group, residential villa community for Vatika Group, campus buildings for NIIT University Neemrana, and numerous award winning residential buildings.
