Akshay Kaul specializes in the field of ecological planning and landscape architecture and possesses more than 23 years of work experience in India and USA. He has worked on projects of various scales like townships, river front development, university campus, resorts, housing, infrastructure projects, residential projects including small scale projects like terrace gardens or public art projects. In each one of these the starting point for planning or design involves first fixing the water system on the site and gradually integrating and restoring issues related to erosion, soil, native vegetation and wildlife, interwoven with inspiration from spiritual, cultural and site ethos.
Akshay received his Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from College of Environmental Science and Forestry, State University of New York, Syracuse, USA in 1992 and worked with the world renowned office of Peter Walker William Johnson and Partners before returning to India in 1994. He received International Award for Living Design City Competition for Sustainable Cities – 2011, won the International Competition Design for South Asian University,New Delhi and large campus Master Planning Competitions for Institute of Public Health and Management, Gandhi Nagar and University of Science and Technology, Kashmir. He provided sustainable landscape design for IRRAD Gurgaon campus that received LEED platinum rating.
He has been recently engaged with community-centric projects with schools in adopting neighborhood parks for community development, environmental education and sustainable practices. He traveled extensively post floods in Kashmir and has been working on various initiatives related to habitat there.
